Task 1 While you are watching the short sequence where Frankenstein is brought alive, make a note of how the following are used : -The emotions of Victor (How they change) -The setting -The atmosphere and mood created
It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils. With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open; it breathed hard, and a convulsive motion agitated its limbs. Pathetic fallacy – Straight away setting dark atmosphere Looking at what all his hard work has created – quite proud of himself Sees no immorality in what he is doing at this point First references to the creature alive and they are very negative Extremely derogatory to the creature he has spent so much time on –showing what he is like as a person. Pathetic fallacy – giving the idea that something bad is going to happen in the future We can see just how important this is to Victor that it is effecting him physically
Opening sequence POINTEVIDENCEEXPLAIN As soon as Chapter 5 begins there is a negative atmosphere created Pathetic fallacy is used from the very first line here. Shelley gives a dismal, bleak atmosphere from the outset; giving the reader the idea that something negative is going to happen in the future. Victor Frankenstein appears to be quite proud of what he has created We get the impression that Frankenstein wasn’t the perfect creation Victor would have wanted
Now use PEE to write an extended piece of writing on the opening sequence. As soon as Chapter 5 begins, there is a negative atmosphere created. This is shown when Shelley writes “It was on a dreary night of November” Pathetic fallacy is used from the very first line here. Shelley gives a dismal bleak atmosphere from the outset, giving the reader the idea that something negative is going to happen in the future. POINT EVIDENCE EXPLAIN
Does your example include : -Detail -A variety of punctuation -Correct spellings -Clear use of PEE -Clear understanding and analysis?
