Objective Tangipahoa Parish Sewer District No.1 requested an improved design/method of cleaning their 82 lift stations. This design should be mobile and can be attached to the back of their company trucks. It should also be designed to empty the non- digestible solids into a barrel to be dumped at a landfill.

Lift Station Visit Wednesday March 5, 2014 Tangiphoa Parish Sewer District Vice President, James Harper, gave us a visual look at what the inside of a lift station looks like and how it works.

Lift Station or Wet Well

Problems Non-digestible would get trapped in the pump Things would have to be taken out manually by someone Non-digestible would be to big to get out of the lift station Preventing the lift station from working properly Prevented the cycling from different resident homes, companies, etc. Pipes were getting clogged

Methodology Study on the lift station Design a mobile storage tank with a filtration device Design a water pumping system for mobile storage tank. Discovering and designing a method for removing the non-digestive solids from the storage tank will need to be completed.

Storage Tank Emptying Device

Extract waste from storage tank Tank will remain horizontal at all times Will similar to a vending machine Standard flight auger (eta.com) Pitch same as diameter Low force application

An example that most can relate to would be the way a vending machine works. My design will look different but operate mostly the same. This is how the inside of the tank will look if looking in from the top. Underneath there will be a drain going to a finer filtration process then back to the lift station.

Looking in from either end of the tank, if it was open this is what you would see, the in tank auger being supported by bearings at both ends.

Keeping the inside of the tank clean

An electric motor Belt drive

Filtration Device

It will be a bio separator. Sand P-gravel and gravel Charcoal Perforated sheets This method is similarly used in Sewerage Treatment Plants to purify the water.

Mobile Storage Tank

Research on aluminum tank trucks and how they are built. These tanks are designed to transfer non-digestible solids and liquids into the tank to be disposed of. They are able to withstand the pressure of the liquids for long periods of time. The material of the tanks is designed to be able to prevent rusting while carrying liquid and non- digestible solids to and from the disposal area.
