2 History Started in the 1950’s The Europe Broadcasting Union (EBU) is a union of broadcasting organizations in Europe Marcel Bezencon Based on the Sanremo Music Festival, in Italy 1 st - Eurovision Grand Prix First held in Laguno, Switzerland, at the Teatro Kersaal, on 24 May 1956

3 History Host - Lohengrin Filipello An orchestra of 24 musicians, led by Fernando Paggi 100 minutes The first Eurovision had only 7 countries: -Belgium -France -Germany -Italy -Luxembourg -Netherlands -Switzerland

4 The First Winner : Switzerland And the winning song was called “Refrain”, performed by Lys Assia
