October , 2009 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” (Ezekiel 33:6, New International Version) Weekly World Watch Andy Walton’s To skip the introductory slides and go straight to this weeks developments click here.

What is a Weekly World Watch? Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north.” The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.” Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. WWW presentations in PowerPoint can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here. Move your mouse to place the cursor on the blue link and click.clicking here The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible.. I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW:

HEADLINE EVENT COMMENT News Photo The source of the headline and the date are included. Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. What is in a Weekly World Watch? BIBLE QUOTE This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. Unless stated otherwise, all quotes are from the King James Version. (Book, chapter, and verse) This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. Every WWW event slide has the following format. To reveal each block of text just left click your mouse or press the space bar. You control when it appears. This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without going into detail. If more detail is desired, please me:

Obama says Nobel Peace Prize is "call to action" On the face of it this event is not that significant. However on further contemplation this event may not only be significant it could in fact be the sign we have all been waiting for. The next two slides deal with this element. "Very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the Nobel committee said in its citation. The fact is though that Obama in 9 months has achieved practically nothing in relation to peace. This prize is really for what it is HOPED Obama can do – especially in relation to the Middle East. In some ways of course it now ties his hands. He has been branded a “man of peace”. How can he now launch a war if he wants to? Many think this award has hamstrung the President and that is what it was designed to do. Far from strengthening the USA is has actually weakened its power. With Bible in hand we know that Obama’s strategy of dividing God’s land will not bring peace but destruction. We know America will be in a weak position when the invasion of Israel occurs. We know there is only ONE man of peace.. the LORD JESUS CHRIST Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision that honoured the first-year U.S. president more for promise than achievement and drew both praise and scepticism around the world. The bestowal of one of the world's top accolades on Obama, who has yet to score a major foreign policy success after nearly nine months in office, was greeted with gasps from the audience at the announcement ceremony in Oslo. Describing himself as surprised and deeply humbled, Obama said he would accept the award as a "call to action" to confront the global challenges of the 21st century. Reuters, October 9, 2009 EVENT COMMENT For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,…. The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, BIBLE QUOTE (Isaiah 9:6)

World reaction to Obama winning the Nobel Obama’s statement after winning. “all nations have the responsibility to demonstrate their peaceful intentions.” “we must all do our part to resolve those conflicts that have caused so much pain and hardship over so many years, and that effort must include an unwavering commitment that finally realizes that the rights of all Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security in nations of their own.” Shimon Peres, Israeli President "Under your leadership, you have begun making peace a reality and making it a key issue on the agenda, which must be realized. From Jerusalem I express my confidence that the bells of understanding and dialogue between the nations will start ringing again.“ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "I look forward to working closely with you in the years ahead to advance peace and to give hope to the peoples of our region who deserve to live in peace, security and dignity,“ José Manuel Barroso, the European Commission President "A tribute to President Obama's commitment to the values of peace and progress of humanity. This award is an encouragement for engagement by all those who can contribute to bring about a safer world.“ U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon "His commitment to work through the United Nations gives the world's people fresh hope and fresh prospects,“ Palestinian peace negotiator Saeb Erekat "We hope that he will be able to achieve peace in the Middle East and achieve Israeli withdrawal to 1967 borders and establish an independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital," TIME, October 9, 2009 EVENT

World reaction to Obama winning the Nobel When you read all the statements of support and hope for peace from all the world leaders for Obama it must make us think of 1 Thessalonians 5:3 Paul says there will be a time when “they shall SAY peace and safety”. Who are the “they”? Well verse 1 speaks of the “brethren” and refers to them as “you”. Therefore “you” is talking of the saints – us. “They” must refer to non-saints i.e. the rest of the world. So we look for a time when people of the world SAY peace and safety. SAY does not mean IS! Paul does not say “When there IS peace and safety”. The word SAY means to talk about, speak about it, mention it. The word safety literally means “security”. Yesterday the world’s most powerful man was named a man of peace. The world responded with talk of peace and security. It almost felt surreal that it was happening. Could all this talk of hope, peace, security and desire for sorting out Israel and the Palestinians lead to sudden and quite possibly imminent destruction. Possibly. The time of trouble has not yet started but it may be soon in coming. Back on the 12 th May 2009 the Pope, the little horn of Daniel 7, the ruler of the people who destroyed the Temple in AD70, the abomination that causes desolation stood on the Holy Place. The Holy Place refers to the exact spot where the current Dome of the Rock stands. It is precisely where the Holy of Holies once stood. For the first time in history the little horn stood on that exact spot in May. It is a sign to all who would see that the time of trouble such as never was no nor ever shall be is about to begin. In fact it is a sign for all living in Israel to flee. Two thirds of people living in Israel will die. Months later we have leaders around the world speaking of peace, security and hope. We saw tsunami and earthquakes last week. Momentous events are happening.. COMMENT when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. BIBLE QUOTE (1 Thessalonians 5:3, Matthew 24:21)

Fears of third intifada as tension grows in Israel Israel is bracing itself for violent protests on a scale not since the second intifada after Palestinians officials gave warning of a mass uprising. After two weeks of mounting tension and sporadic clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinian protesters, a showdown is expected when Friday prayers are called at the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem's old city. Thousands of Israeli soldiers and policemen are being deployed around the site after the Palestinian Authority called a one-day general strike and a leading Islamic cleric in Egypt urged the Arab world to rise up in "a day of anger". But what will worry Israel the most are mutterings in the occupied West Bank of a "third intifada". The most recent intifada, or mass uprising, erupted in 2000 and lasted four years – resulting in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians and hundreds of Israelis. As tensions have risen in recent days, the rhetoric has grown more incendiary. Daily Telegraph, October 8, 2009 EVENT COMMENT Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people:..For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies. ….For it is the day of the LORD’S vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. BIBLE QUOTE (Isaiah 34:1,2,8) The Temple Mount has become once again the flashpoint of Arab v Jew. There has been violence around the site most of this week with hundreds of stone throwing Palestinians attacking Israeli police. Israel has arrested a number of senior clerics who are inciting the violence. The Palestinians (and other Arab leaders) are accusing Israel of a plot to take over the Temple Mount. Israel denies this and says that Syria and Iran are stoking up the tensions for their own ends. We are fast approaching a showdown over this most holy site on the earth. Just months after the Pope’s visit violence is about to explode. As Jesus said it would.

EU draws up plans to establish itself as 'world power' The European Union has drawn up secret plans to establish itself as a global power in its own right with the authority to sign international agreements on behalf of member states. Confidential negotiations on how to implement the Lisbon Treaty have produced proposals to allow the EU to negotiate treaties and even open embassies across the world. A letter conferring a full "legal personality" for the Union has been drafted in order for a new European diplomatic service to be recognised as fully fledged negotiators by international bodies and all non-EU countries. According to one confidential paper, the first pilot "embassies" are planned in New York, Kabul and Addis Ababa. The move is highly symbolic in Britain as it formally scraps the "European Community", the organisation in which Britons originally voted to remain in the country's only referendum on Europe 34 years ago. Daily Telegraph, October 7, 2009 EVENT COMMENT And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him BIBLE QUOTE (Revelation 17:12) It seems clear from the scriptures that Christ returns BEFORE this empire is established. The Lisbon Treaty in effect does establish an empire. Europe will become a legal entity for the first time ever. Hence it being able to sign international agreements and open new embassies around the world. Revelation speaks of kings giving their power to the “beast” but not receiving a kingdom (empire) as yet. They have had power with the beast for one hour or 30 years. It was in1979 that Europe held its first democratic elections. Add 30 years = Calculation of one hour. One hour is taken as being one twelfth part of the day in Israel. One day = 12 hours. One day = one year in prophecy. One year = 360 days in Israel. One twelfth of 360 days = 30 days. But a day for a year = 30 years! 2520 years (7 times) after the fall of Babylon brings you to 1979 – Babel re-established! (Daniel 4:23)

Nasa Scientists 'Bomb' Moon's Surface Nasa scientists have "bombed" the south pole of the Moon with two spacecraft in an attempt to kick up a six-mile high dust cloud that may contain water. A satellite crashed into a lunar crater at around 5,600 miles per hour, followed four minutes later by another spacecraft equipped with cameras to record the impact. Grainy thermal images carried on Nasa's television station showed colder blue sites and warmer red sites on the moon's surface, but there was no apparent light flash as the rockets made impact. The space agency had expected the blasts to kick up a visible plume of lunar dirt to an altitude of about six miles and produce a flash of about 30 seconds. Scientists are now examining the preliminary data from the collision. Sky News, October 9, 2009 EVENT COMMENT And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. BIBLE QUOTE (Genesis 37:9) When do you think the moon is first mentioned in the Bible? You might think in Genesis chapter 1 and creation. You would be wrong. The first time the moon is mentioned by name is in Genesis 37:9 when Joseph dreams of it. This is a symbolic dream – this first occurence is a symbolic moon! So what does the moon symbolise? It symbolises religion. In Joseph’s dream it is clear that Joseph’s mother is the moon. The mother of natural Israel. A woman is symbolic of religion. The religious feasts of Israel are all governed by the moon. The moon has no natural light. It reflects the light of the sun into the dark world. The true church (spiritual Israel) should reflect the light of the Sun (Christ) into the dark godless world. What does man do to the moon this week? Bombs it! Attacks it! It may not be long before natural Israel is also attacked. War will also be fought against the saints as well. See Daniel 7:21. But both natural and spiritual Israel will overcome. Revelation 17:14.
