2  Solar Energy is radiated energy, both light and heat, from the sun.  Solar Energy can be obtained by solar panels (Extremely expensive).  Solar Energy can be classified by passive solar and active solar.  Solar panels convert radiant energy to electrical energy. General Information

3  The photovoltaic cells convert light energy into electrical energy.  Photons penetrate the photovoltaic cells.  The photons loosen the electrons in the top silicon layer.  The electrons in the bottom layer flow to the top layer and run through metal contacts as electrical energy. 4 Pros and Cons  Pros  Solar energy is inexhaustible.  Provides an alternative to fossil fuel which are running out.  You can place solar panels on residential home.  Cons  Solar energy is extremely expensive to obtain due to the solar panels.  Not quite as powerful as fossil fuels or nuclear energy.
