DRAWING FROM OBSERVATION Lines, Shapes, and Value

Unit Goals: Using Shapes, Lines and Value  1 - Be able to use basic shapes and drawn forms to produce (draw) the basic proportions of an observed object.  2 - Be able to use Contour Lines to produce (draw) a more realistic outline and detailed drawing from observation.  3 - Be able to use value to show the illusion of form in your observational drawing.

Lesson One Goal : Using Shapes  Review:  What are the basic catagories of shapes?  What is the definition of proportion?

Goal 1: Basic Shapes  Find the basic shapes of the object.  What shapes do you see?

Review: Proportion

Goal 1: Basic Shapes  Find the basic shapes of the object.  What shapes do you see in this object?

Lesson One Goal: Basic Shapes  Practice First: Drawing the Basic Shapes  Lets get started: Stand up and loosen up. Practice using the whole arm. Draw your shapes large.

Lesson One Goal: Basic Shapes  Drawing From Observation:  Find Basic Shapes: Draw quick and loose. Draw large. Don’t worry about being perfect.

Lesson Two Goal: Basic Shapes  Find the basic shapes of the object.  Find the basic forms.  Pick it up and investigate.

Review: Basic Shapes  1-Square=  2-Triangle=  3-Ellipse=  4-Circle= Basic Shape = Basic FormsExamples

Draw: Show me what you can do!  Two minutes to draw your object as best as you can.
