Suggestions/Strategies Become familiar with Funding Opportunity Announcements – http://ww1.drugabuse.gov/funding/pa http://ww1.drugabuse.gov/funding/pa Identify appropriate/relevant Institutes. Develop a relationship with Project Officer in relevant Institute/Division. Get Program Officer feedback on concept paper. Communicate with Program Officer during concept/application development, prior to submission, after review. Become familiar with review committees. Develop/maintain relationships with strong mentors and collaborators.
Submit a Concept Paper Study Goals You want support to do what? Problem/Significance Why does this topic need study? Research Question What hypotheses will you test? Design/Analysis What study design and statistical approach do you propose? Team Who will be the key participants and collaborators? A concept paper describes your research plans concisely. It’s a tool to facilitate productive discussion with an NIH Program Official. Suggest 1 page.
