5 T&G Work Events – Sand Hill Trailhead Tune-Up – Phase 1 – January 5, Participants included: Marylee Bowen, Rod Buffaloe, Jim Buffaloe, Kyle Buffaloe, Hans Kemmler, Mike Schoolfield, Drew Thompson Expenditures totaled $ ($ remain in 2013 T&G budget) Repairs on the paddock gates: $89.73 on hardware and the hinges Herbicide for Brazilian Peppers, cleaning supplies, Gatorade, cups, ice: $

6 Paddock Latch TypicalPaddock Gate Typical Each gate had one hinge up and one hinge down, and the one pointing down was not providing any support. Also, when the hinges were moved before, the bolts that went through them were removed and the top and bottom corners of the gates were coming apart because they had only small nails holding them together. The eight paddock gates originally had the hinges near the top and bottom of the gates, and at some point, someone moved the hinges more toward the center (vertically) of the gate. These following before & after pictures and explanation of 1/5/2012 trailhead tune-up repairs on the paddock gates were provided by Hans Kemmler 1/7/2012 6

8 Paddock Gate Stop We used a car jack to lift each gate, removed the upside down hinge and drilled new holes for the hinge on the gate side after adjusting the gate height. We tightened al the existing bolts and bought new ones for the corners where the hinges used to be and installed them. Also, we added stops so that the gates hit the stop before pressure is put on the hinges. All eight paddock gates are now operational. Before we started, only one would close all the way! 8
