INTRO – PROJECT DESCRIPTION o Produce a robust prototype that dispenses medication on a time-bases to patients in a secure and accountable environment. o Allow to dispense a week’s supply of up to 6 different pills for two patients accessed twice daily. o Reliable and compact electro-mechanical dispensing system that can be controlled by a common laptop. 3

INTRO – PROJECT DESCRIPTION 4 User inputs finger print information Laptop communicates information to the dispenser Dispenser produces medicine

M EDICINE D ISPENSER - L AYOUT Lid Cylinder Holder/ Latch Assy Support Rail Ramp (Collapsible) Empty Return Lid Leg (Collapsible)

D ISPENSING P ROCESS User Approaches the dispenser User places finger on finger print reader Correct nitinol latch is actuated and medicine falls with the use of gravity Medicine cylinder rolls down the dispensing ramp and passes optical sensors. User takes medicine Deposit empty medicine cylinder into return slot at the rear of the dispenser 6

R EFILLING P ROCESS Retrieve empty dispenser from user At pharmacy, unload all empty medicine cylinders from the return slot Turn the dispenser over, release legs and flip up ramp to expose nitinol latch assembly. Plug in the dispenser to the main pharmacy computer and scan finger print or pin Sort required dosage into cartridges Place individual cartridges into properly allocated spots with guidance of the software Unplug dispenser, close ramp and legs, and prepare for delivery. 9

R EFILLING P ROCESS Flip Ramp to gain access to cylinder slots
