FACTORS POSSESED AT TIME OF GRADUTION COMPARE TO THOSE REQUIRED AT WORK Group D Harald,Jess,Mesta,Oktova,Aida,Iqbal,Harjanto,Sylvie

INTRODUCTION  A tracer study was conducted using a questionnaire, wherein the sub section on Competencies and their application was analyzed  There were about 85 alumni responded to tracer study questionnaire, 40 variables on knowledge, skills and competencies were used the factor analysis. (There were 320 variables in the questionnaires)

PROCEDURE  The respondents were asked on the extent to which knowledge, skills and competencies were possessed at the time of graduation. At the same time they were also asked the extent to which knowledge, skills and competencies were required at work.  Extent was measured on a scale of 1 to 5, wherein 1 =not at all, and 5 =to a very high extent

RESULTS 1)Two factors are quite interpretable out of 7 factors that were extracted with eigen values above 1. These factors are made up each of the following original variables or items in the tracer study. 2) Factor 1 (competence possessed after graduation) may be tentatively labeled “ORGANIZATIONAL COMPETENCE”. The items correlated with it are: self- confidence (.83), willingness to learn(.78), broadmindedness(.75),honesty,assessing ones work, creativity, time management, writing skill, leadership, and foreign language ability.

 3) The second factor is composed of the following variables: teamwork, loyalty-integrity-commitment, adaptability, and initiative. Difficult as it may be to label this, it may be called the ‘COMMITMENT FACTOR’.  4) The other 5 factors are so diffused that no meaningful construct could be extracted from each of them. This must be due to the very few respondents –85 only –vs-45 variables.

 5) For ‘work requirements’, the first major factor may be labeled ‘PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND SKILLS’. The variables that make up this factor are as follows: adaptability(.88) responsibility(.86),initiative(.83),flexibility, decisiveness, leadership, and broadmindedness. Added to these are factors that loaded between.54 and.64, and these are: critical thinking, teamwork, selfconfidence, and honesty.

 6)The 2 nd major factor that is required at their place of work may be labeled ‘WORK MANAGEMENT’. WM is made up of the following variables: a.managing IT b.planning, coordinating, organizing c.foreign language ability d.analytical thinking e.problem-solving and understanding

SOME PARTING WORDS BY WAY OF CLOSING THE DISCUSSION 1)The results herein are not yet conclusive because the number of respondents is far too low. However, the configuration of the first factor, i.e., the variables that compose it are somewhat similar to the studies in Europe. 2)Further study on competencies possessed at time of graduation and those required at work may be done to arrive at more stable and meaningful factors. It may be noted that the ad hoc results seem to generally support intuitive notes on the matter. 3)Develop in the students during university study qualities in management, language proficiency, responsibility and initiatives, team work ability.
