19 How to Use the Oxford Picture Dictionary Interactive

20 Step 1: Registration u Click Add Name.

21 Registration Screen u After clicking on Add Name, you will see this screen. u Click in the First Name box and type in your first name. u Click in the Last Name box and type in your last name.

22 More about Registration...Passwords u You can type your class name and number, but it is not required. u Decide on a password. Your password can be 1- 10 letters and/or numbers. u Click in the password box and type the password. u You will be asked to type your password again. u Instructors can use the Teacher Management System to retrieve student passwords.

23 Return Visits to The Oxford Picture Dictionary Interactive u After the initial registration and use of The Oxford Picture Dictionary Interactive, student names will be listed on the Registration screen. u Each student will click on his/her name and then click OK. u Each student will be asked to type in his/her password before the program can be used.

24 Step 2: Selecting a Unit u There are 12 units. The buttons on each side of the screen are Unit Buttons.

25 Step 3: Choosing a Topic u There are 128 topics in the twelve units. u The topic screen shows the topics from the unit selected. u The pictures that represent each topic are in the middle of the screen. u The unit buttons remain on the sides of the screen. u Simply click on the unit buttons to change units. u Choose a topic by clicking on its picture.

26 Choose a topic by clicking on its picture. Use the Scroll Bar to see all topics within a unit.

27 Step 4: Exploring a Topic u The explore screen lets students learn vocabulary in context. u Each image that represents a vocabulary word or phrase is marked by a white dot. u When the white dot is clicked, the word or phrase is both spoken and displayed. u The white dot can be clicked as many times as necessary to hear and see the word or phrase.

28 Using Scroll Bars u There are scroll bars located on the left side and/or on the lower left hand corner of the screen. u Some topics do not have scroll bars and some only have one scroll bar. u The scroll bars are needed when the entire picture(s) cannot be seen on the explore screen. u Use the scroll bars to navigate up and down and right and left to see the entire picture(s).

29 Changing the Size of the Picture(s) u There are also + and – buttons on the left side of the screen. u The + button will make the picture bigger, and the – button will make the picture smaller.

31 Recorder Window u On the explore screen, the students can also record themselves saying each word and can compare their pronunciation to the model. u Click on the microphone on the toolbar located at the bottom of the screen to open the recorder window and begin recording. u You will need a microphone and speakers connected to the computer for this to work.

33 Step 5: Choosing a Practice or Testing Activity Once you have finished exploring the topic, click Activities on the toolbar located at the bottom of the screen.

34 From the Activities Screen, various practice, testing activities, and games can be selected. Activities Screen

35 Step 6: Using the Teacher Mode This mode allows the instructor to access student records in order to: –Find or change student information or passwords, –Add or delete students from a class list, –Monitor students’ performance on the program’s tests.

36 Entering Teacher Mode u To enter teacher mode, go to the Registration screen, press the CTRL key and type t. u Then type opd+ in the password box.
