2 Agenda for today (flexible) Demonstration of CINAHL and PubMed Alert/Notification Services How to save alerts for EndNote Tips & discussion about information management Hands-on time to experiment with searches, databases, and alerts features

3 Alerts/Notification Services Guides Notification services allow you to receive notification of new books or articles in your area of study. Online guide from the Bothell Campus Library: Online guide from UW HealthLinks: ts.html ts.html

4 CINAHL Click on “Personal Account (for Searches” link on upper blue bar Click on “Create a new Personal Account” and register Click on “Main Search Page” link Perform a search in CINAHLCINAHL Click on the “Save Search/Alert” link underneath the Search History.

5 CINAHL Name your search and select the Type as AutoAlert (SDI) Pick Fields and Scheduling options you want For EndNote Users: (Output Type – keep the default of “Ascii” (?) Result Format - Reprint/Medlars

6 CINAHL Click on Save Can revise alerts by clicking on the “Saved Searches/Alerts” link on upper blue bar

7 PubMed: My NCBI Setting up an account: Click on the My NCBI link located on the left blue bar in PubMedPubMed Register confirmation with link Set-up account

8 PubMed: My NCBI Searches Conduct a search Click on “Save Search” to the right of the “Go” button Answer the question “Would you like to receive updates of new search results?” by choosing Yes For EndNote Users: Choose the format of MEDLINE and Text Click the OK button

9 PubMed: My NCBI Collections “Send to” and choose “Clipboard” Click on the “Clipboard” tab Click on “Send to” and select “My NCBI Collections”

10 How to save Alerts/Notifications for EndNote Save s as a text file (.txt) When you set-up your alert/notification account, choose a format that is EndNote friendly such as text or ascii (varies per database interface – read the help screens).

11 EndNote 8 Tutorial Located online at: Goals of the tutorial: Search and save citations from the PubMed/Medline database Import citations into your EndNote library Format your paper's citations in a bibliographic style you choose Includes a link to a 30 day free trial of EndNote
