11 Boeing History William Boeing founded company in 1910 in a Seattle shipyard Vought selects North Charleston in 2004 to construct portions of the Boeing Vought held grand opening for its 343,000 square foot facility to manufacture the 787 Dreamliner fuselage

12 Boeing History 2007 Boeing’s Dreamlifter delivers fuselage to Washington for assembly 2009 Boeing purchases Vought Aircraft’s entire operations for $1 billion in July 2009 Boeing announces in October that North Charleston will be the site of its second assembly line for the 787

13 Project Details Boeing plans to create over 3,800 jobs resulting from this project at this plant Assembly plant is located in North Charleston adjacent to the Charleston International Airport Construction is currently underway. Site has been permitted

14 Plane Assembly Currently parts of the 787 fuselage section are delivered for assembly from Italy and Japan Components of the 787 fuselage are delivered to Charleston for assembly. This new project will enable the entire plane to be assembled in Charleston and not just the fuselage

15 Local Opportunities Boeing spends over $4 billion with suppliers in Washington state Their exports account for nearly 2/3 of total exports from the state of Washington Boeing’s facility in Everett, Washington is one of the world’s largest buildings with doors the size of a football field

16 Vendor Meetings Boeing general contractors held an informational meeting for subcontractors in December County staff notified local companies about this meeting BE&K and Turner Construction are committed to providing opportunities for local contractors

17 Boeing Meetings SC Department of Commerce will be helping to coordinate meetings NESA will be working with member counties to schedule meetings County will participate with SC Department of Commerce and NESA on Boeing supplier meetings

19 Local Collaboration Summary of all meetings and marketing trips will be provided Purpose to help promote local companies in Georgetown County Notification of opportunities for businesses in our area will be provided to them Collaborative effort focused on creating jobs here in our community

20 Moving Forward County staff will continue to notify local companies of all Boeing meetings Updates will be provided to local businesses to keep them up to speed Collaboration with NESA and SC Department of Commerce We will make the most of this tremendous opportunity presented by the Boeing project
