4 The Etruscans  Great metalworkers & jewelers  Culture heavily influenced by Greece  Achievements include:  Built Rome’s first city walls and sewer  Introduced the arch  Alphabet and number system  Gladiator games and chariot races  Styles of sculpture and painting

5 Timeline:  753 BC- Romulus & Remus establish Rome  735 BC- Rome ruled by Latin kings  616 BC- Etruscan rule  509 BC- Romans revolt, throw out kings, establish a new type of government: republic (elected officials governed the state)

6 Read & Fill in Activity  Read p in the textbook  Fill in answers to the questions on the activity sheets

7 Roman Republic & the U.S. Constitution  After you are done with the reading and activity sheet…  In pairs-  Step 1: Define each term in your own words  Step 2: Read each excerpt from the Constitution. Decide which term matches each definition best.  Step 3: Write out the Constitution excerpt under the column: U.S. Government
