LOG 206 Intermediate Systems Sustainment Management Logistics FIPT concurred in principle and fully supported the requirement for a follow-on series of Sustainment courses: LOG 206 on-line course LOG 207 one-week (4-day) classroom course Resourcing was an issue; had not been funded Sponsor for several CLMs (DMSMS, Obsoloscence, CPI, Tech Insertion) was simultaneously encouraging a new emphasis on these topics within DAU certification courses Sponsor has provided initial “seed money” for LOG 206 Intermediate Systems Sustainment Management

Perhaps the Wall Chart doesn’t adequately represent “Life Cycle” management at all, given that a system’s Program Manager is now truly responsible for the whole life cycle management of the system – and given that most of a system’s costs and the actual length of time associated with a system’s total life occurs in the Operations and Support phase. This more accurately represents a system’s life cycle view. Therefore, the importance of a system’s Sustainment cannot be overemphasized.

For some systems, the period of time that Sustainment is required dramatically changes our view and understanding of a System’s life cycle. Once again, this view highlights the magnitude of the sustainment effort in support of a system that has been through formal acquisition. This slide shows the expected system life of the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) that was created to provide transport capability in the re-supply of combat vehicles and weapons systems.
