How to measure length? Let us look at the pencil below? The length of the ruler is 5 cm – 1 cm = 4 cm

LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to : - compare a square and a rectangle and guess which object has a bigger area - carry out a test to confirm their guesses - state that area = length X width - state the standard unit for area in the metric system - calculate the area of a given shape in standard unit

Even a field has an area that we can measure after we identify the width and its length.

Picture below shows a 1 cm width and a 1 cm length of grids which then can be drawn as 4 cm width and 5 cm length. Moreover, area of an uneven shape can also be measured.

How to measure area of a rectangle? 1.First, we have to identify the length and its width. 2.Look at the blackboard below. a b length = a width = b Area of the blackboard is a x b = ab The unit is cm 2 Now, let say a = 5 cm, b = 3 cm Area, A = 5 x 3 = 15 cm 2

How to measure volume of a cube? 1. First, we have to identify the length, width and height of the cube. 2. Bearing in mind that the length, width and height of a cube is the same. 3.
