1 Sentences Objectives: To be able to identify the features of a sentence. To be able to describe and use what a verb is. To write sentences using the correct features.

2 Sentences A sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. What is wrong with these sentences? 1.it is a sunny day 2.the lesson is fun 3.i like eating chocolate.

3 Sentences A sentence must make sense on its own. Do these sentences make sense? 1.The good is weather. 2.Ball is the round. 3.Park I went to.

4 Doing verbs A sentence must have a verb. A verb is a doing or being word. Doing verbs describes an action. What is the doing verb in each sentence:  Henry surfed into a giant wave.  Emily is eating a turnip.  The dog was running across the grass.

5 Being verbs A verb is a doing or being word. Being verbs tell you about something (examples: is, was, were) Identify the being verb in each sentence: 1.The men were old. 1.I am cold. 1.Emily is eating a turnip.

6 Task Highlight the verbs in the writing below. Highlight the doing verbs in green and being verbs in red. ‘Miss Trunchbull, the Headmistress, was something else altogether. She was a gigantic holy terror, a fierce tyrannical monster who frightened the life out of pupils and teachers alike. There was an aura of menace about her even at a distance, and when she came up close you could almost feel the dangerous heat radiating from her as from a red-hot rod of metal. When she marched- Miss Trunchbull never walked, she always marched like a storm trooper with long strides and arms aswinging-when she marched along a corridor you could actually hear her snorting as she went and if a group of children happened to be in her path, she ploughed on through them like a tank, with small people bouncing off her to the left and right’.
