The GlaSS-house grEEnhouse 3 rd cycle of primary school LES
Objectives for the task This LES presents various directed activities in order to initiate the students, through the living world to the use of measurement instruments as well as to laboratory work techniques.
Validations… What was done… 1 st time: October 2010… Fresh and new! Upgrade of previous knowledge; Essential needs of plants; Initiation to measurement instruments (scale, graduated cylinder); Initiation to a separation process: filtration; Introduction of tropisms and photosynthesis; Discovery of coloured pigments in plants.
Prerequisites: Technical capsules about: The scale; the graduated cylinder; filtration. Context: Presentation of the request for information.
Activity 2 The objective, to distinguish between: Photosynthesis; Respiration; Respiration; Evapo-perspiration. Using examples, videos and demonstrations, show the students that plants feed themselves, breathe and perspire.
Activity 3: Tropisms Distinguish three types of movement in plants: Phototropism; Hydrotropism; Geotropism.
Activity 4: Photosynthesis without chlorophyll, useless! Initiation to laboratory work techniques; Initiation to the experimental process by directed lab; Discovery of laboratory instruments; Extraction of chlorophyll; Initiation to diagramming.
Activity 4: Photosynthesis without chlorophyll, useless!
Thanks! To Nancy Johnson and to her students at L’Arc-en-ciel school of the CS de Laval; To Gigi Ouellette and to Isabelle Laprise as well as to their students at the du Ruisselet school, from the CS Seigneurie-des-Mille-Îles.
