2 I Spy 1, 2, 3, 4… SMART Board/Podium I spy… One SMART Board/Podium, one projector, one computer * No computer = no SMART Notebook software = no function Two cords: (1) VGA cable (1 = board/2 = podium) and (2) USB cord * Connect cords and use Function (Fn) key (for laptop) * Unified board/projector: Power on > Computer 1 or 2 Three SMART Notebook icons: (1) apps tray, (2) floating toolbar, and (3) on desktop * If missing, SMART Notebook download or update at Four lights on board: (1) no light (no connection), (2) red light (no software), (3) blinking green (update software), (4) solid green (full function) Or lights on podium: (1) no power, (2) power/blue (powered on), (3) status/solid blue or blinking (tool full function or between tools), (4) status/yellow (update software) 2 © 2010 Jennifer Brown King, Ph.D. All rights reserved.

F.O.R.K.S. stands for…  Finger-tip/Stylus touch [to locate position of cursor] * Windows 7 computers may need to “turn off” panning to prevent intermittent sliding of SMART Notebook.  Orient the SMART Board [to position cursor]  Right-click [on SMART pen tray, simulates right-click on a mouse]  Keyboard [on SMART pen tray with six different key pads]  SMART Pens/Eraser [which activates SMART tool in SMART Menu] 3 © 2010 Jennifer Brown King, Ph.D. All rights reserved.

4 Peer Coaching Session 1: Troubleshooting the SMART Board or Podium Coach: Colleague: 4 Date:Time:Location: Coaching Goal: Peer coaches will meet with a colleague for 60 minutes to coach them through troubleshooting the SMART Board or Podium using the “I Spy 1, 2, 3, 4 and F.O.R.K.S.” strategies. Coaching Objectives: Use the coaching skill “I Do, We Do, You Do” in order to… 1. (I Do) Demonstrate troubleshooting using “I Spy 1,2,3,4 and F.O.R.K.S.” strategies 2. (We Do) Practice troubleshooting with Colleague 3. (You Do) Create a “Troubleshooting Notebook” 4. Take a picture of you and your colleague during the peer coaching session. Coaching Outcome: Assist the colleague with making their own Troubleshooting Notebook. If a document camera is not available or accessible, then use a smart phone or tablet to take your pictures.
