2 The GI bills and other VA Education Benefits Chapter 30 (1986) Montgomery GI Bill (active Duty) Chapter 31 Disabled Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation* Chapter 32 Post Vietnam GI bill: VEAP (Veterans Educational Assistance Program) Chapter 33 Post 9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008* Chapter 34 (old) Vietnam Era GI bill (now wrapped into Chapter 30) Chapter 35 Dependents Educational Assistance Program Chapter 1606 Reserve GI bill Chapter 1607 Mobilized Reserve GI bill *Pays tuition and fees books and supplies

3 Guard and Reserve Education Benefits Federal Tuition Assistance – Army Guard and reserve (almost always) – Navy/Marine Corps/Coast Guard (sometimes) – Air Guard and Air Force Reserve (almost never) – $250/credit hour – Maximum $4500.00/fiscal year (01OCT-30SEP) NH National Guard Scholarship Currently $750.00/year NH National Guard Tuition Waiver – Waives all state school tuition not covered by free federal and state need-based grants and scholarships (fees not included in the waiver program – Calculated after al Financial aid applied (kinda)

5 Gi Bill “Kickers” “College Fund” (ex: Army College Fund) additional payment on top of GI Bill for singing up to do a number of different things the military has a hard time recruiting (or retaining) people to do. $100.00/month to sky’s-the-limit (most common: From active duty:$222.22 & $400.00 month Guard/Reserve Kickers: (given for the same reason as above) $100/$200/$350.00/month most common $600.00 Buy-up (person contributes up to $600.00 additional dollars to receive an additional $150.00 per month) (If eligible, can receive multiple kickers at the same time)

6 Chapter 33 Post 9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008 In effect for classes starting 01AUG09 or later Pays 100% of tuition and fees up to the amount of the most expensive public school in the state (VA to pay direct to school) Pays a monthly stipend based on E-5 BAH (basic allotment for housing) with dependents for the area. Pays up to $1000.00 per year books and supplies stipend One-time payment of $500.00 for those relocating to school from “highly rural areas”
