Four Gears of Reading: Skim it: Scan it: Read it: Rehearse it: Look it over quickly About 30 secs per page Look at the visuals Read the headings and sub- titles Get a general idea Read the questions; Search quickly key words that refer to the q’s; Circle the key words Now that you have acquired the basic information, read every word. Go back and forth through the text to find the answers to the questions or to solve the problem.
