Weathering, Erosion, & Soil By: Daniel Cameron
What is erosion, weathering, & soil? Erosion is a process that wears away Earth’s surfaces. Weathering is the breaking down of Earth's rocks, soils and minerals. Soil is a natural body of Earth formed from the particles of broken rock
It usually occurs due to transport by wind, water, or ice; by down-slope creep of soil and other material under the force of gravity. Erosion of Alaska’s Coast
Erosion Erosion is a natural process, but it has been increased dramatically by human land use.
Hurricanes causing erosion
Two important classifications of weathering processes exist — physical and chemical weathering.
Weathering Physical and chemical weathering includes the processes of...frost action...thermal expansion...wetting and drying...salt decay.
Soil is composed of particles of broken rock.
Soil Soil differs from its parent rock due to interactions between the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and the biosphere.
1.What are the two types of weathering? 2.What are the four agents of erosion that wear away Earth’s surface? 3.Most soils have a density of what? 4.Erosion is defined as the removal of what?
