Transferring Magnetic Storage Media Off-Site February 5, 2007, Mark Leininger
Transferring Magnetic Storage Media Off-Site Last Fall DOE CIO imposed embargo on transferring magnetic storage media offsite. That embargo is over. However:
New Guidelines Lab needs to implement some new processes, not sure how long this will take. Storage used for information with “moderate level confidentiality” must be tracked more stringently to control its disposition.
Even under current embargo Storage Media can be transferred: If it was part of an evaluation system owned by someone else (observe sanitization procedures) To other DOE labs (not to universities, not to CERN or other non-DOE labs) Note that systems can be sent offsite if the storage media is removed and stays at FNAL.
