Health and Wellness Internship SUNY Oneonta Health Education Office Christina Valenti Fall 2012
Internship Overview 120 Hours located both inside and outside the office of Health Education Under the supervision of Rebecca Harrington, campus health educator Worked on many activities for the Office of Health Education regarding various health issues.
Freggies October 2 in MyKitchen in Mills Dining Hall Oneonta’s largest salad bar Encouraged guests to make healthy salad topping choices and gave them advice on how to do so.
Alcohol and Other Drugs Went to AOD committee meetings twice a month. Discussed ways to decrease the growing number of emergency alcohol transports of students. Alcohol Awareness week was Oct 8-12, there was tabling in the quad with games set up to demonstrate how neurotransmitters in the brain work during addiction. T-shirts were individually made in the office of Health Education, students got to choose what their high was to put on the shirt.
Freshman 15 Presentation October 9 th in Tobey Hall Put on a presentation with 2 other interns, providing information on how to avoid gaining weight in college.
C.H.O.I.C.E.S CHOICES (Choosing Healthier Options in the College Environment Successfully) meets every Friday at 3pm. This semester we practiced a lot of meditation. We also made goodie bags for Random Acts of Kindness Day in November and gave them out to people on campus, encouraging them to pay it forward. Find the microbes.
Hump Day Wagon Every Wednesday throughout the semester Out around campus, or inside the library when the weather was bad Offers different items to help encourage safe sex practices Students enjoy it.
Nutrition Bingo December 3 in Tobey Hall Presentation on the 12 Healthy Days of Christmas Gave students materials to play “Nutrition Bingo” throughout the week. Will be continued next semester.
