Activities: l Establish awards for companies and academia-industry partnership: - IEEE Region 10 Milestone Award for outstanding technical achievement. - IEEE Region 10 Academia-Industry Partnership Award for outstanding academia-industry collaboration which has contributed to revolutionary technology progress.

3 Report of Industry Liaison Committee 3/5 (1) IEEE Region 10 Milestone Award The IEEE Milestones in Electrical Engineering and Computing Program recognizes achievements in all IEEE fields. Currently there are more than 60 Milestones around the World, among which the number of Milestones in Region 10 is only six, as follows. Sendai SectionDirective Short Wave Antenna, 1924 (June 1995) Tokyo SectionMount Fuji Radar System, 1964 (March 2000) Nagoya SectionTokaido Shinkansen (Bullet Train) 1964 (July 2000) Tokyo SectionElectronic Quartz Wristwatch, 1969 Tokyo SectionDevelopment of VHS, World Standard of Home VTR, 1976 Kansai SectionPioneering Work on Electronic Calculators, 1964-1973

4 Report of Industry Liaison Committee 4/5 The necessity for an achievement to be an IEEE Milestone is - it must be at least 25 years old, - it must have involved a unique solution to an engineering problem, and - it must have had at least regional impact. The necessity for the Region 10 Milestone Award will be - it must be at least 20 years old, - it must have involved a unique solution to an engineering problem, and - it must have had at least regional impact. Budget; 1,500 US$

5 Report of Industry Liaison Committee 5/5 (2) IEEE Region 10 Academia-Industry Partnership Award for outstanding academia-industry collaboration which has contributed to revolutionary technology progress. Although our Committee is now discussing the details of this Award, we would like to encourage Sections and Councils to seek such candidates. Budget: 1.500 US$
