AASHIK R PAIRING STUDENTS IN A CLASS

2
MAKE STUDENTS ASK MORE QUESTION

3
PROBLEMS Students lack confidence to ask a question to the professor in a class A student might not ask a question thinking that the question is dumb Professor might judge the student based on the question he asks Some students ask way too many silly questions making the class boring

4
PAIR STUDENTS

5
SOLUTION Pair Students randomly before the class starts Each student has a laptop open in front of him to view the interface. Every 2 minutes a question be asked by a student using the interface which the other student will view and the other student can ask the question If the student thinks it is a simple question he can answer it himself If the student doesn’t ask the question in 5 minutes, the question will be transferred to another student.

6
INCENTIVE Participation points can be given to students based on the number of questions asked to the other student and the number of questions asked to the professor If the student doesn’t answer a question asked by his pair within 5 minutes, he will be paired with someone who has been removed or will be put into a 3 pair until someone who is single is available Once the answer is received the question can be removed by the person who has asked the question At any point the randomization can happen once the question has been marked as answered

7
INTERFACE – WHO ASKS THE QUESTION Answered Delete

8
OPTION 1 - ANSWER IT

9
OPTION 2 – ASK THE PROF

10
PROS Pros – 1) It clears doubts of students who are shy to ask questions 2) Students don’t feel dumb asking the questions 3) No one knows who asked the question 4) You also have an option of asking your own question which might be dumb too 5) Having the time limit will reduce the unwanted questions 6) Simple questions can be eliminated in the class and saves time 7) Unwanted messages are reduced due to the possibility of re pairing without any signal after a question is complete

11
CONS Students may indulge in unwanted chatting. It may be distracting for a few students Student may not be able to answer the question asked by the professor related to the previous question Will not be effective in a small class since it will be easier to know who typed in the class and to figure out who asked the question.
