3GOALSTo acquaint a large number of youth with Rotary and the Four-Way Test Speech ContestTo demonstrate and enhance Rotary’s commitment to youthTo heighten awareness of Rotary among youth, parents, schools, and communityTo recognize, encourage, and reward hard work and accomplishment among youth
4WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Any High School student in grades 9-12 Not a previous District 5790 winnerStudents from both public and private high schools or home schools in your community
5WHAT YOU WILL NEED Three (3) Judges One (1) Scorekeeper One (1) Timer Master of CeremoniesStopwatch, judge’s score sheets, summary score sheetNumbers for contestants to draw
6WHAT YOU WILL NEED Line item in club budget Club Awards for contestantsProvide contestants and coaches lunchRecommend five (5) maximum contestants for club program (remember to start a little early)Time Required – 30 minutes
7SPEECH CONTEST RULES Subject: “What the 4-Way Test Means To Me” 3” x 5” index cards are allowedNo scripts or props of any kindTime line of five (5) minutes maximumJudged on content, delivery, and organization
8DATES AND TIMINGNovember – Contact schools to verify school participation and forward literature to school representativeDecember – Schedule club contest for FebruaryJanuary 1 – Club Coordinator identified and contact information submitted to the District CoordinatorJanuary 15 – Verify the club contest date with the school
9DATES AND TIMING February – Hold your club contest March 1- Submit the Regional Participation Form to the District CoordinatorLate March/Early April – Two Regional Contests are heldMay – District Conference/Final Contest
10CLUB COORDINATOR Fill out and submit all forms before the due date Make sure deadlines are metEnsure that your students can participate!
11IMPACT Promotes Rotary and its values Provides more exposure for contestants and local Rotary Club (through photos and articles in your local newspaper, ask reporter to attend as guest)Demonstrates how Rotary supports community youth and values
12IMPACTProvides opportunities to showcase contestants and local Rotary Club on YouTube, Facebook, and other social networking mediaHelps identify potential candidates for RITE, Ambassadorial and cultural scholarships
