Genesis 1:1, 31; 2:1-2 (ESV)  In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.... 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.  2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

Genesis 1:28  And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 1:29-30  29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Genesis 2:16-17 ESV  And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Genesis 1:27, 2:18, 2:25  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.  Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”  And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

GENESIS 1:28, 2:20 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field.

Discussion Questions  Discuss these three relationships. Which relationship of the authentic man were you struck by most and why?  Give examples of how these relationships have flourished in your life.

Genesis 3:1-2  Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

Genesis 3:24  He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.

Genesis 3:12-13 ESV  12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

GENESIS 3:16 ESV 16 To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

GENESIS 3:17-19 ESV 17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread... 19 …till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

ROMANS 3:10-18 10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. 13 Their throat is an open grave, they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. 14 Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood, 16 in their paths are ruin and misery, 17 and the way of peace they have not known. 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Discussion Questions  What are the ways that sin has broken your relationships…tangibly in your life...with God, with community, with creation?  What are the ways that you’ve seen Jesus restore these broken relationships?

MATTHEW 1:21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

2 Corinthians 5:21  For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Exercise  Pray and ask for God’s help to see sin as He sees it. Pray for one another’s holiness and purity.  Celebrate the completed work of Christ on your behalf.
