3 3 Tell me about XML for Analysis (XMLA)? It’s a standard way to: 1.Connect to OLAP Data sources / Multi-dimensional Database Servers (MDBMS). This is analogous to ODBC for the Relational Database (RDBMS) world. 2.Query metadata and data 3.Run queries using a standard language syntax (mdXML). This is analogous to SQL for the RDBMS world. Jointly Sponsored by: -Hyperion -Microsoft -SAS Supported by: -Over 25 leading software companies, including SAP, SPSS, Business Objects, Crystal, ProClarity, etc… What is the goal for the XMLA initiative? -The goal for the XML for Analysis Specification is to provide an open standard access API for the leading OLAP providers in the market. Hyperion and Microsoft will fully promote and support this as the industry standard access method to Hyperion's Essbase and Microsoft Analysis Services, while at the same time, encouraging other OLAP providers to join in supporting the XML for Analysis Specification. The effect of this initiative will be to drive adoption of Internet business intelligence software. What are the benefits of XML for Analysis? -Customers will gain the ability to protect server and tools investments and ensure that new analytical deployments will interoperate and work cooperatively. -Developers will gain the ability to leverage existing developer skills and to use open access XML-based Web services, eliminating the need to program to multiple APIs and query languages. -Independent software vendors will be able to reduce complexity and costs for development and maintenance by writing to a single access interface.
