“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
… God wants us to know Him and enjoy Him … God wants to bless His creation
Jeremiah 2 … they strayed so far from me … followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves … did not know me … exchanged their glorious God … forsaken me, the spring of living water … dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water … have you not brought this on yourselves … how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the Lord your God
Deuteronomy 10:12-13 And now, Israel, what does the L ORD your God ask of you but to fear the L ORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the L ORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the L ORD ’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
… what was being offered by the serpent and then claimed by the human pair through their disobedient act was not just the ability to recognize the difference between good and evil, but the right to define for oneself good and evil. Christopher Wright
It’s only when we know God for who He is and allow Him to be God in our lives that we will enjoy His blessing.
What are disciples like? … come to me … hear my words … just do it
