Aim: Delivery of our South Coast Sea Trout action plan, habitat enhancements in WFD failing stretches. Status: Officer employed, and site identification beginning for bidding into Catchment Restoration Fund. Spend to date: £20,000 Surface Water Quality (1 of 2) Chair –Simon Lohrey Project – Agricultural Diffuse Pollution Project Lead – Steve Lysyj Project Officer - Prim Duplessis Project Partners: WTT, landowners Aim: Delivery of a suite of advice and intervention measures on identified high environmental risks estates. This project in integral to the delivery of the Adur and Ouse suite of wider projects. Status: Officer employed, and site identification beginning for bidding into Catchment Restoration Fund Spend to date: £40,000 Surface Water Quality (2 of 2) Chair – Simon Lohrey Project –Ouse Upstream Thinking Project Lead – Jane Birch Project Officer- Simon Lohrey Project Partners: South East Water, University of Brighton Aim: Encouragement of good farming practices to help reduce nutrient loading into the river Ouse. Long term funding for this project will be embedded into PR14. Status: Project officer employed and seeking PR14 options. Integration of Surface Water Drinking Plans into catchment actions. Delivering ecosystems services national profile project. Spend: £45,000
Natural Rivers (1 of 4) Chair – Henri Brocklebank Project –MORPH Project Lead – Sally Chadwick Project Officer- Peter King Project Partners: OART, National Trust, landowners Aim: Integration of WFD objectives for failing morphology and fisheries with delivery of the Catchment Flood Management Plan options for the Ouse Status: Project officer employed (shared with ARPHA). 14 sites taken through options appraisal, outline options and detailed design. Groundwork for 4 sites due to start Summer 2012. Complementary Hydrometry and Telemetry catchment plan agreed for hydrometric assets Spend to date: £400,000 Natural Rivers (2 of 4) Chair – Henri Brocklebank Project – ARPHA Project Lead – Lou Parker Project Officer- Peter King Project Partners: OART, landowners Aim: Integration of WFD objectives for failing morphology and fisheries with delivery of the Catchment Flood Management Plan options for the Adur Status: Options appraisal of all Adur assets. 16 sites selected for options appraisal. Up to 6 sites taken forward for detailed design. Spend to date: £100,000 Natural Rivers (3 of 4) Chair – Henri Brocklebank Project – Teville Stream Project Lead – Lou Parker Project Partners: Worthing BC, West Sussex CC, SWT, Glaxo Smith Cline, landowners Aim: Delivery of morphological, water quality and invasive species measures in an ‘bad’ urban waterbody Status: Detailed design for river restoration incorporating surface water and contaminated land issues. Long term spatial planning contribution potential. Financial contributions of external partner of up to 50% project value. Natural Rivers (4 of 4) Chair – Henri Brocklebank Project –TrUck Project Lead – Rosie Pyper Project Officer- Sandra Manning- Jones Project Partners: Woodland Trust, SWT, Uckfield Valley Flood Forum, landowners, Forestry Commission, University of Durham/Laucenne, Sussex Floodplain Meadows Aim: Identify areas in the River Uck catchment where planting woodland and other habitat improvements could reduce the risk of flooding downstream at Uckfield and Lewes. Status: Project officer employed. 20 sites identified, surveyed and modelled to ascertain maximum flood risk benefit Spend to date: £47,000 Coastal Waters Chair – Rob Clark Project – Sussex Coastal Inshore Pilot (SCHIP) project Project Lead – Mark Bennet Project Partners: IFCA, SWT, Channel Coast Observatory Aim: Integration of WFD and Marine Conservation Zone measures through creation of a high resolution map of Sussex coastal waterbody. This map will be used in community consultation for ground truthing commercial interests. Status: Data gathered from CCO and collated into report. Initial baseline consultation carried out through social media and existing community forums. Spend to date: £47,000 Groundwater Chair – Chris Manning Project – Groundwater Protection in Brighton and Hove Project Lead – Rosie Pyper Project Officer- Prim Duplessis Project Partners: BHCC, tenant farmers Aim: Working with Brighton chalk block landowners and tenant farmers about farming practices to protect the failing groundwater aquifer. Status: Evidence gathered and landowner workshop planned with novel satellite technologies to trial in catchment.
