3 Project Description PNRT is a project to establish a research testbed environment in terms of a multilayer optical network testbed which can be used for advanced networking research by academia and industry, primarily on optical transmission and Wavelength multiplexing, optical networking, IP-Optical integration, distributed router architectures and traffic engineering.

4 Project Goals  To deliver a technical design of PNRT with exact location of nodes, facilities on the nodes, type of facilities, types of fiber interconnecting the nodes, lengths and attenuation of the fiber links between the nodes and physical connection interfaces  To write a procurement document including Ethernet switches, IP routers and optical cross connects that can support the research projects on PNRT

10 Network Design Prototype Advantages  Using network ring between PERN, Punjab University, LUMS and Austrian university we could use less optical filters. At the same time, this kind network designing will have more reliability  It supports ring, star, point-to-point topology  It can also support self heeling ring topology

13 Advantages and Disadvantages Cisco ONS DWDM switch:Transmode TM-3000 DWDM switch: Advantage: -Provide built in support of amplifier. -Chassis support patch panel. -Provide transponder that support multi rate (155 Mbps to 10 Gbps). Disadvantage: -Support 195 km with OA’s -Support minimum 4CH MUX/DEMUX module with band OADM only. Advantage: -Provide very compact DWDM switch. -Support 40 lambdas without OA’s -Support 450 km with OA’s -Provide transponder that support multi rate (100 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps) with multiple ports. -Provide transponder that has dual ports. -Provide minimum 4CH MUX/ DEMUX module. 16 Juniper M series Router Advantages Software  Juniper developed the operating system-JUNOS also as modular, the infrastructure is more available and reliable  As Juniper networks holistic approach to GMPLS begin with the software design process and the JUNOS greatly simplifies the update and maintenance process  Juniper operating is not like other routers’ operating system, JUNOS software allows service providers to separate level from single router, so that the operating system can be run on core routers, edge routers and customer premises equipment.
