stealing our Intimacy

Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. --1 Peter 5:8

You experience a lack of closeness and little real intimacy. You can share a bed, eat at the same dinner table, watch the same TV, share the same checking account and parent the same children but you can still be alone.

You may have sex but you don’t have love. You may talk but you don’t communicate. You may live together but you don’t share life with one another. Dennis Rainey

We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again.

You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. -- Heb 5:11-14

For many people the barrier to spiritual growth is not lack of commitment, but over-commitment to the wrong things. -- Rick Warren

An over-full schedule and constant activity erode the soul. Busyness wears down our ability to hear, to listen to the promptings and warning signals of God’s Spirit, His Word and His people. Fatigue becomes disorienting, and it makes us oblivious to what’s really happening to us.

What is the biggest obstacle facing the family right now? It is over-commitment; time pressure. There is nothing that will destroy family life more insidiously than hectic schedules and busy lives, where spouses are too exhausted to communicate, too worn out to have sex, too fatigued to talk to the kids.

That frantic lifestyle is just as destructive as one involving outspoken sin. If Satan can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy. -- James Dobson

Busyness is not of the devil, it is the devil. -- C.S. Lewis

Beware of the barrenness of a busy life. -- Socrates

By all means marry. If you get a good wife, you’ll become happy. If you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher. -- Socrates

Be very careful, then, how you live; not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. -- Eph 5:15-16

See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. -- Heb 12:15

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. -- Col 3:12-13

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others -- Phil 2:3-4

stealing our Physical Intimacy stealing our Physical Intimacy

Satan is preoccupied with sex. One of his most destructive tools is to take the beauty of sex as God intended it and twist it so that it becomes something God never intended. God made sex pure; Satan uses it for perversion. God created sex for oneness; Satan uses it to bring division. God designed sex to produce life; Satan uses it to bring death.

If there is selfishness, division, and death in your sexual relationship, consider the source. Refuse to see your spouse as the enemy, and instead fight together against your true enemy, Satan.

It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; -- 1 Thess 4:3

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. -- Heb 13:4

Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers. May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. …

A loving doe, a graceful deer, may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love. Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another man's wife? -- Prov 5:15-20

I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl. -- Job 31:1
