analysis This seems to be the best air distribution possible, but the aseptic air flow is obstacled by a warm air layer, that come from the operating area and from the presence of operating lights. A/C unit outside the operating room Air extraction Aseptic air flow All the operating theatre can adopt The ‘Air Shield’ A/C system. They can drastically maximize the aseptic air flow on the hot-spot. This is the all surgeons need and it will be a standard procedure in the future operating rooms. The A/C system, placed outside the O.R., extracts the air from the O.R. and, after a filtering procedure, it gets the air directly on the operating point again. The Air Shield is completely free to move around the operating area.

The ‘Air Shield’ A/C system is a new high-tech project developed by EGGS DESIGN and TECNAIR LB to achive a perfectly aimed aseptic air flow (filtered by HEPA air-filter) and get it directly above the operating field (about 31’’ above the operating area). The ‘Air Shield’ environment is plugged directly on the main source of the operating room’s aseptic A/C system. In case the operating room hasn’t an indipendent aseptic air source, it’s possible to install a new very compact A/C system near the O.R. A ceiling supply system allows the Air Shield system to be completely free of move against the wall/ceiling and the manual operated vertical adjustment, with weight compensation by means of springs, take the air flow directly on the surgical hot- spot. The ‘Air Shield’ system gets the aseptic air flow into the room through a microspotted fabric. The air flows directly on the hot-spot or on all the stuff to be kept aseptic. Optionally it is possible to install a lighting system with optical-fiber wires that supplies cold white light.
