2 History 2008 Sanford Vet Center calls meeting of Veteran community stakeholders Brainstorming of barriers that Veterans and their families face 4 main barriers identified Poor awareness of community resources/services Inconsistent networking of government entities, Non Profit Orgs, Veteran Service Orgs and other stakeholders Unemployment Homelessness

5 Harvest of Resources Fair 4 th Annual H.O.R.F. November 2 nd 60 agencies/organizations who provide services to Veterans (all eras) and their families Catered BBQ lunch Lifetime Maine State Parks passes issued Excellent networking opportunity Attendance has been between

6 Career Fair Career Center, Maine Vocational Rehabilitation and Chamber of Commerce lead effort Held in March Open to public, with emphasis on hiring Veterans 60 employers (must be hiring to attend) Employment training breakout sessions 600+ Attendees last year 58 confirmed direct hires

7 HUD Point In Time Survey Sanford Vet Center, Preble Street Resource Center and VFW lead effort Unique approach for rural area Call Center (Vet Center) Survey takers at Food pantries/soup kitchens Mobile patrol Looked for all homeless (Vets/nonVets) Immediate referrals to PSRC for assistance

8 HUD Point In Time Survey Results FY 12: Total homeless – 51; Veterans - 18 FY 13: Total homeless – 78; Veterans - 30 Community Impact: Sanford Housing Veterans initiative Increased Preble Street Resource Center services in York County Much tighter relationship between homeless programs, Vet Center and VSO’s
