A Canadian initiative to implement institutional repositories at several Canadian research libraries Project began in August 2002 Overwhelming interest in institutional repositories from Canadian research libraries

4 Canadian Association of Research Libraries Institutional Repositories Pilot Project Purpose 1.To increase the visibility of institutional and Canadian content, especially of journal articles that are mostly published outside of Canada. 2. To enhance the current scholarly publishing environment. We are promoting the current SPARC position—to complement the current publishing system with the use of IRs, rather than replace it.

To showcase the interoperability of Institutional Repositories in the Canadian context. 5. To speed up the learning process through exchanging best practices with each other.

Institutional Repository tools are easily accessible and not too complex to implement and use. 2.Buy-in from stakeholders has been easier than anticipated. 3.The “In-Action” learning process is valuable.
