5 Case study 1 Attend drop-in at community alcohol service, city centre Triage assessment Placed on waiting list for structured psychosocial intervention Referral to clinic for further assessment Placed on waiting list (12 week wait) Admitted in to inpatient service Discharged Limited onward referral to relapse prevention groups at community alcohol service

6 Expanded treatment system After:

7 Case study 2 Screened for alcohol misuse in universal services and referred to community alcohol services Comprehensively assessed by community alcohol service at neighbourhood centre (within 3 days) Commence structured psychosocial intervention with named keyworker (within 21 days) Clinical/home assessment by community detoxification nurse Aftercare plan developed by named caseworker Community detoxification planned to enable smooth and timely transition into structured relapse prevention
