Prepare everyone for CHANGE Thoughts you might be feeling about our campus computer conversion (we feel it too!) I hate this. We are not ready to go live. Why did we make this change? Students won’t be able to get their needs met. Our old programs were better. I like what we have now. Why did we spend so much money on this? It is going to be impossible to learn so quickly.
Prepare Yourself and Your Director Yourself Reduce or eliminate student contact Work from home Change in routine Impact on personal life Banner on the brain!!! Director Time to attend training and consulting sessions Time to attend conferences Time to learn Time to train Time for staff to attend trainings Time to be available for questions
Partner aka Banner Buddy Each counselor partnered with another counselor as “Banner Buddy”. Banner Buddies –Work together on training homework –Help absent Buddy catch up on material from training session –The person with which to start with questions –Remind each other to refer to documentation –Moral support
Collaborate With Other Departments Share documentation Work together to use the same terminology Help each other with training topics Give heads-up when issues arise Meet regularly – ex. Cuesta Banner Functional Leads meet monthly

Train Tips Use a consistent format Start slowly and simply Train on a limited number of topics at a time Hold sessions no more than a week a part Cheat Sheets – quick reference guides Topics Luminis Portal login and navigation INB and Faculty & Advisor Self Service –Navigation (INB) –Terminology –Student lookup –Student history –Test scores –Prerequisites (INB) –Recording student contacts (INB) –Entering SEP data (INB)
Faculty and Advisor Self Service Set up Student Information Menu access: –Counselors can view student information for any student. –Other faculty are restricted to student information for students enrolled in their courses. Provides counselors with a user friendly way to access most of the information needed from Banner.
