2 Warm-up 4/4 and 4/7 What are some words or phrases that you have heard friends, older family members, or teachers use that is unfamiliar to words you normally use? List 3 and what they mean. Stay away from swear words. – Ex: Pop = Soda Why would we need to know words that are used in different areas of the country? Homework: Civil War Leaders Booklets (34pts), Road to Civil War Notes- test will be one these.

3 Station Expectations Students will not move unless asked by Ms. Farley; assignments move. There is no talking outside of the teacher’s group. All students MUST be connected via Smart Sync. If you have a question, raise your hand and wait quietly, we will get to you ASAP. You will have 30 minutes at each group.

4 Activities Quizlet- Starts at students facing the Word Wall. Complete the Civil War Part 1 terms. Individual time. Ms. Farley’s Group- facing the Smart Board. Making Historical Figures Booklets. Road to Civil War Notes- facing the NC flag. Individual Note time

5 Warm-up for 4/9 and 4/10 Prior to the Civil War, many people did not speak out against slavery, but were against it. Why do you think they would NOT speak out against slavery? Why should they have spoken out? Must answer in 4-5 sentences.

6 Today we will ….. Expand our critical thinking skills in written expression. Identify key vocabulary terms. Investigate the Major Battles of the Civil War and answer: “How did the South lose the war?” and “How would the United States look today if the South had won the war? Homework: Major Battles Playing Cards, and The American Civil War Readworks Reading Guide Extra Credit will be available over Spring Break: Create our own Slave Spiritual/Rap

9 Warm-ups for 4/11 and 4/26? Readworks passage: Slavery, Civil War, and Reconstruction. I will give you 20 minutes to complete this. Homework: Any work not completed in class

10 4/11 Warm-up: Achieve Log-on to MissionUS.org. Please complete the packet that you were given last class as your continue your journey. If you finish before the timer goes off, do Achieve. I will set a timer for 35 minutes when every one is logged on. Bathroom break afterwards

11 Mapping the Civil War- Friday All of my B day classes will work together to complete a map that will locate the states, trails, railroads, rivers, mountains, and battles of the Civil War. Each class will be responsible for a different section. This will be displayed in the hallway as will any spirituals that students complete for Extra Credit, and Civil War booklets, and Notes.

12 What is your class responsible for? Core 1B- Label Major Battle fields from NC to GA. DO remember to label the path of Sherman’s march. Core 2B- Label the states, major rivers, and mountain ranges. Label Washington, DC (Union Capital) and Richmond, VA (Confederate Capital). Core 3 B- Label the Major Battle fields from VA to PA.

13 Tuesday and Wednesday Warm-up Achieve “ Half Way Post Test” All students MUST do in class. Take your time. The faster you click and answer, the more questions get asked. Homework: Any and ALL missing work.

14 America: The Story of Us While we are viewing a clip from the documentary “America: the Story of Us” you will complete the Movie Guide. I will be collecting this for a grade.

15 Friday: 4/25/14 REDO DAY and Mapping Activity for those who have ALL of their work in.

18 Warm-ups: Monday and Tuesday What are 3 things you learned about the Civil War that you did not know before we started this unit? What are two things you are still uneasy about? Get out your laptop, I need to see if the NC Test icon is on your desktop. Homework- study using playing cards, and booklets. Test is Friday! Reconstruction Readworks if not done in class. I will sign off on our homework when your hand is raised.

19 Finish the Civil War clip Get out your movie guide out. I will pass back the ones that I had collected last week. We will finish the video clip and review the guide together.

21 Review for Test- Wednesday and Thursday I will have 2 groups. In the middle facing front = Finish Booklets and Cards Rows facing the walls= review games on my webpage, Study Island for Civil War, and Achieve 3000 HOMEWORK- Use booklets and playing cards as flash cards, quiz yourself. Test Next Class!!! ALL Achieve Readings are due Friday 5/9.

22 Friday and Monday Test on the Civil War Log-on to quia.com. The Test is under quizzes as “Civil War Unit Test.” I will put the Word Bank on the screen when everyone is logged in and quiet.

25 5/7 and 5/8 Connect to Ms. Farley via Smart Sync Go to Brainpop.com and log-in – leecs – brainpop If you complete both brainpop assignments, log- on to Achieve and complete your readings. Homework: Achieve There are only 2 days left!!!! Progress Reports signed and returned by next class!!! Raise your hand to have me sign off.

26 5/9 and 5/12 Turn in your Brain-pop and Progress Reports. Achieves are due today. Clear your desk of everything except a pen or pencil. Pass out movie guide for “America : The Story of Us- BUST” I will be collecting this for a grade. Homework: Missing Work, Quia Review Activities

30 Guided Readings. The Holocaust- If this is not completed in class, it will become homework. Read and complete “Remembering the Holocaust” on Achieve this is homework.

31 5/15 and 5/16: Warm-ups The United States will enter WWII on December 7 th, What is the name of the attack? Why does Japan attack the United States? Who was President of the United States at this time? What movie is created in 2001 that identifies this day as a day of importance? – Look the answers up using the textbook, or your laptop.

32 Treasure Hunt We will complete a treasure hunt using the WWII Interactive map on wwii-interactive wwii-interactive We will be looking specifically at Pearl Harbor, The Manhattan Project, and The Atomic Bomb (Hiroshima).

33 Achieve 3000 Goodbye to an American Hero Post WWII- 35years after the war – Complete the Articles above when you are finished with the Treasure Hunt.
