1 History of Bhutan Scout Association (BSA)
1996 -Youth Guidance and Counseling Section was established under Education Department, Ministry of Health and Education. Scouting program was chosen as one of the channel to promote value education among the students. 1997 -The first Basic Scout Unit Leaders training was conducted by a group of International Scout Leader Trainers under the guidance of Mr. S. Prassanna, Adult Resources Director, Asia Pacific Regional Office, World Scout Bureau, Manila. A total of 33 teachers attended the course at the Youth centre, Motithang. Mr. S. Sukuma, the National Training Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, India was the Course Leader. 1998 -The second Basic Scout Unit Leaders training was conducted at Bajo HSS, Wangdue. Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Dy. Commissioner, Bangladesh Scouts was the course Leader. The course was assisted by the international Scout Leader Trainers. A total of 16 teachers attended the course. A total of 17 Scoutmasters attended the Advanced Scout Leaders Training in Bangladesh. 1999 -The 3rd Basic Scout Unit Leaders Training was conducted at the Youth centre, Motithang and it was attended by 29 teachers.

2 DEFINITION The Scout movement is “A Voluntary, Non-Political, Educational movement for young people open to all without distinction of origin, race or creed, in accordance with the purpose, principles and method conceived by the founder.”

3 BE PREPARED: For what you may ask?
The Scout Law i. A Scout is trustworthy ii. A Scout is loyal to Tsa-Wa-Sum iii. A Scout is friend to all and brother/sister to every other Scout iv. A Scout is polite and considerate v. A Scout is kind to animals and loves Nature vi. A Scout is self disciplined vii. A Scout is cheerful under all difficulties viii. A Scout is thrifty ix. A Scout is pure in thought, word and deed The Scout Law sets down in clearly understandable language the code of conduct that forms the basis of good citizenship. It captures the virtues and duties expected of each member in positive terms. THE SCOUT MOTTO BE PREPARED: For what you may ask? B.-P. answered, “For any old thing.”

4 The Scout Promise THE SCOUT SLOGAN
 DO A GOOD TURN DAILY A good turn basically means being thoughtful and generous to others. When their desire to serve others becomes an automatic response to a situation, they will experience a real joy that comes from freely giving help. The Scout Promise  On My Honour I Promise that I will do my best To do my duty to Kenchogsum Duty to Tsa-wa-sum (King, Country and People) Duty to self, parents, others and To obey the Scout Law
