3 Site History Originally owned by British Industrial Sands Commenced waste disposal operations in 1985 Biffa took over site operations between In 1999 the site was grated a recycling license

4 Site Information Site effectively works off two licenses Intake of 90% inert and 10% biodegradable waste 800 tonnes enter per day 250 tonnes leave per day

5 Recycling Activities 10% active waste was limiting customers At present the site segregates wood and cardboard Any materials they can recycle are forwarded for recycling elsewhere

6 Landfill Gas Management Biodegradable wastes can generate landfill gas over time Landfill gas is 65%:35% Methane and Carbon Dioxide, and traces of organic gases Monitored monthly by a gas control system

7 Site Remediation The base and sides are naturally lined by sandstone A gas-venting layer around the perimeter of the site Boreholes monitor quality of water and gas mitigation The restoration involves progressive capping

8 Restoration Phase 1 and 2  landscaping of areas that have reached capacity Phase 3  restored area for use as two sports pitches and given to a school Phase 4 and 5  Whole site restored for use as a nature reserve with public walk ways, car park and possible visitor’s center
