FCCLA NEW MEXICO FOUNDED IN NM IN 1946 FORMERLY KNOWN AS: FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA (FHA OR FHA-HERO)
NAME CHANGE IN 1999, THE STUDENT MEMBERS VOTED FOR THE NAME CHANGE THE NAME WAS CHANGED TO BETTER REFLECT THE MISSION AND PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION AND TO ENCOURAGE MALES AND FEMALES TO JOIN FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA (FHA) DOES STILL EXIST AS A NAME FOR THE ORGANIZATION IN A FEW STATES
PROGRAM EMPHASIS FCCLA --IS THE ONLY IN-SCHOOL STUDENT ORGANIZATION WITH FAMILY AS ITS CENTRAL FOCUS. --IS THE ONLY IN-SCHOOL STUDENT ORGANIZATION THAT FUNCTIONS AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES EDUCATION CURRICULUM AND OPERATES WITHIN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. --PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACTIVE STUDENT PARTICIPATION AT LOCAL, STATE, AND NATIONAL LEVELS.

WHO CAN JOIN? MALES AND FEMALES ARE WELCOMED INTO THE ORGANIZATION. EACH YEAR OVER 200,000 STUDENTS JOIN OVER 10,000 CHAPTERS IN 50 STATE ASSOCIATIONS AS WELL AS THE DISTRICT COLUMBIA, PUERTO RICO, AND THE VIRGIN ISLANDS.

WAYS FOR STUDENTS TO PAY DUES LOCAL PAYMENT PLAN ADVISOR AND STUDENT AGREE TO PAYMENT PLAN WHERE STUDENT MEMBER WILL PAY A CERTAIN AMOUNT EACH MONTH UNTIL DUES ARE PAID IN FULL PAID/NONPAID PRIVILEGES PAID MEMBERS GET TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL EVENTS; NOT PAID ONLY GET INVOLVED IN WHAT TAKES PLACE DURING CLASS TIME PAY TOTAL UPFRONT STUDENT MEMBERS PAY THE TOTAL AMOUNT IN ONE PAYMENT OR WORK EXPERIENCE/FUNDRAISER IN ORDER TO BE A FULL VOTING MEMBER OF THEIR LOCAL CHAPTER

PROGRAMS FCCLA offers several programs for members including : Career Connections Leadership Service in Action FACTS (Families Acting for Community and Traffic Safety) Families First Financial Fitness Japanese Exchange Power of One STOP the Violence Student Body
CAREER CONNECTION Career Connection guides students to develop, plan, carry out, and evaluate projects. The projects improve the quality of life in six (6) units. Students focus activities on different aspects of career development. Students can choose a unit, then plan and carry out related projects that strengthen their awareness of skills needed for careers.
LEADERSHIP SERVICE IN ACTION The FCCLA Leadership Service in Action program guides students to develop, plan, carry out, and evaluate projects that improve the quality of life in their communities. Leadership Service in Action helps young people build skills for family, career, and community roles; provides youth- centered learning experiences related to Family and Consumer Sciences education; and encourages young people to develop the positive character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
FACTS (FAMILIES ACTING FOR COMMUNITY & TRAFFIC SAFETY) Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety (FACTS) is a national peer education program through which students strive to save lives educating adults and youth about traffic safety and supporting enforcement of local rules and regulations regarding community traffic safety.
FAMILIES FIRST The FCCLA Families First national peer education program through which youth gain a better understanding of how families work and learn skills to become strong family members. Its goals are to: help youth become strong family members and leaders for today and tomorrow and strengthen the family as the basic unit of society.
FINANCIAL FITNESS The FCCLA Financial Fitness national peer education program involves youth teaching one another how to make, save, and spend money wisely. Through FCCLA's Financial Fitness program, youth plan and carry out projects that help them and their peers learn to become wise financial managers and smart consumers.
STOP THE VIOLENCE The FCCLA Students' Taking On Prevention (STOP) the Violence program empowers youth with attitudes, skills, and resources in order to recognize, report, and reduce youth violence.
STUDENT BODY The FCCLA Student Body national peer education program helps young people learn to eat right, be fit, and make healthy choices. Its goals are to: help young people make informed, responsible decisions about their health, provide youth opportunities to teach others, and develop healthy lifestyles, as well as communication and leadership skills.
JAPANESE EXCHANGE Japanese Exchange is a scholarship opportunity for FCCLA members to travel to Japan for four-to-six weeks as an exchange student. This scholarship is funded by the Kikkoman Corporation, administered by Youth For Understanding USA. Scholarships are worth more than $10,000 each.
POWER OF ONE Power of One gives youth the POWER to fulfill their dreams by creating self-directed projects that focus on: A Better You — Improve personal traits Family Ties — Get along better with family members Working on Working — Explore work options, prepare for a career, or sharpen skills useful in business Take the Lead — Develop leadership qualities Speak Out for FCCLA — Tell others about positive experiences in FCCLA.
STAR EVENTS STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities: cooperative – teams work to accomplish specific goals individualized – an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals competitive – individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria STAR Events are grouped into Foundational, Leadership, Career Preparation, and Online Events.
