Impact of Changing the Dust to Binder Ratio Naga Shashidhar Aroon V. Shenoy

Objectives n There is a recommendation to increase the dust (minus 0.075 mm) to effective binder (P be ) ratio from 1.2 to 1.6 n This presentation summarizes the effect of this change on the mastic rheology using the data from TFHRC

G* Ratio n G* - Complex Shear Modulus (DSR) n G* Ratio =G* Mastic G* Binder

Dust to Binder Ratio G* Ratio 3.5 5.0 7.5

Dust to Binder Ratio G* Ratio

Observations n Changing the dust to binder ratio from 1.2 to 1.6: –Will increase the G* ratio range... –Which may reduce workability of the mix.

Observations n G* ratio could be looked at as a tool to determine which filler-binder systems is more prone to stiffening.

Observations n The behavior will be similar whether we look at G* ratio or viscosity ratio (Brookfield)
