Support Coordination Focus Please refer to Section II.6 of Overview document MyTeraGrid Achieve the best possible match between scientists’ needs and the available resources. Foster Cyberinfrastructure Programs Maximize the productivity of scientists who carry out OCI research and education programs on the TeraGrid. Towards Petascale Science Maximize the productivity of scientists who use Track-2 systems integrated into the TeraGrid.

MyTeraGrid Problem: As the TeraGrid grows and becomes increasingly complex, its value and efficiency is determined by users' ability to quickly understand how best to use its many varied resources to enable their research. Proposed Solution: –Document case studies (worked examples) that exemplify usage scenarios of TeraGrid resources, e.g. Parameter Sweep; Coarse Grained Task Distribution; Compute on X and Store/Analyze on Y, etc. –Link descriptions of relevant resources from these worked examples, so that readers can understand the relationship between TG features and science needs. –Consultants apply this understanding and refer to these materials in working with the users. Collaborate with: Documentation (UFP), Resource Descriptions (RPs, MDS), EOT (use scenarios in training).
Foster Cyberinfrastructure Programs Problem: TG needs to specifically enable HPC work on programs funded by OCI, such as DataNet, CDI etc. Awardees are an important subset of TG users, with specific needs we need to understand and satisfy. Proposed Solution: –Organize a RAT to recommend how TG can best support OCI program awardees. E.g. special subset of resources? Allocation and scheduling considerations? Etc. –GIG US Coordinators, User Champions and PI Liaisons keep informed of solicitations, discuss them with users, and may foster team building. –GIG US and EOT organize pre and/or post-award workshops for suitable OCI initiatives/programs (similar to Tempe PetaApps, 12/07) All GIG Areas should be represented in the Research-RAT. Collaborate with EOT on Workshops.
Towards Petascale Science Problem: Users of Track-2 systems integrated into TG will face unprecedented challenges, which we need to understand and satisfy. Proposed Solution: – Build on the Extreme Scalability RAT by organizing a new working group focused on addressing the problems of enabling these users. –Tasks include coordinated “scaling lab” subgrid, allocations, access and scheduling, ASTA and liaison support, documentation and EOT dimensioned to the specific needs of Track-2 users. All GIG Areas should be represented in the Extreme Scalability WG. Collaborate with EOT team on specialized training for consultants as well as users.
