Question for Break Out Groups How will your local PD activities both address and impact teachers’ knowledge and beliefs about Latino students’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds to create highly effective mathematics learning environments?
Groups organized by the following four areas of research (1) Explore teachers’ integration of mathematics reform practices with effective principles of instruction for Latinos; (2) Investigate teachers’ discourse in Spanish and in English to mediate learning of high level mathematics (e.g., probability and algebraic thinking); (3) Examine teachers’ conceptions of the integration of language development, culture, and mathematics; and (4) Utilize case studies to exemplify teachers’ practices in mathematics within the context of language and culture.
