The findings also suggest that Jesus and Mary Magdalene might have produced a son named Judah. The DNA findings, alongside statistical conclusions made about the artifacts — originally excavated in 1980 — open a potentially significant chapter in Biblical archaeological history. A documentary presenting the evidence, "The Lost Tomb of Jesus," will premiere on the Discovery Channel on March 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The documentary comes from executive producer James Cameron (Titanic) and director Simcha Jacobovici. (An Israeli born Canadian film director.)

SIMPLIFIED TIMELINE OF EVENTS This whole controversy is strangely and coincidently connected to the controversial and proven “fraud” – the “Bones of James” box. 1980 - Jerusalem suburb of Talpiyot discovery of an ancient Ossuary. Experts from the Israeli Antiquities Authority excavated the site some time after, finding the 10 limestone boxes inside. 6 of the 10 possibly have names inscribed that are also mentioned in the Bible … Jesus son of Joseph, Mary, Jose, Matthew, Mariamne e Mara (Magdalene?) And “Judah Son of Jesus”... (It is well documented that at least 3 other sites have been found with a “Jesus” and “countless” sites with Mary and Joseph! A fact completely ignored by the filmmakers!)

7. SIMPLIFIED TIMELINE OF EVENTS 1996 - The BBC first broke the story that these boxes MIGHT contain the names of the Biblical Jesus' family and even Jesus himself. The story quickly loses steam. The “evidence” is so unremarkable that an apartment complex was built on top of the tomb!

8. 2002 – An ossuary box shows up supposedly with the inscription – “James... son of Joseph... brother of Jesus” on the Israeli Antiquities Market. The man who owns the shop says he's had it since the 1970's (10 years before the Talpiyot discovery). (See this article from the Toronto Star for verification of this fact.)this article He said he bought it from an Arab antiquities dealer... This reported “new discovery” goes worldwide and is carried by all the major news media outlets, National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. It is called the “James Ossuary” and supposedly presents the first “physical” evidence for the life of Jesus. The words “brother of Jesus” – subsequently are proven to be a hoax by the Israeli Antiquities Authorities. (The “anti-historical Jesus” crowd is thrilled!) The Israeli authorities later arrest the dealer, (Dec. 2004) Obed Golan, with 3 other men for fraud after they attempt to scam the Israeli National Museum for $4 million, claiming that they have a genuine remnant of the Temple of King Solomon. When the authorities raid his business they discover a “factory of fraud” and claim that the man has made millions over the years with his antiquities “scams.” This is all heavily reported and documented by CBS 60 Minutes, National Geographic and several world-renowned newspapers.

9. RECENTLY - (last couple of years) James Cameron (Director of The Titanic) and Simcha Jacobovici begin working on the “film” (The Lost Tomb of Jesus) on the subject of the original 1980 ossuary find. They got permission to break through an apartment floor to re-enter the tomb. They collect “samples” (DNA and patina – the 2,000 year old residue coating the boxes) from within the tomb. DNA samples are from the Jesus and Mary (Magdalene?) ossuaries. The DNA tests showed the remains in the Jesus ossuary were not linked to the remains in the Mary (Magdalene?) ossuary through their maternal sides. Tombs from that time usually contained blood relatives and spouses, leading the filmmakers to make the jump that Jesus and Mary (Magdalene?) were a couple and that they had a child! The filmmakers said testing is continuing to determine whether the two were related through their paternal side. (Remember Dan Brown and the DaVinci Codes?) The filmmakers tested the patina from the two boxes. They claim the samples from the Talpiyot ossuaries matched the patina of the controversial James ossuary, first found around 1980. (Update: On the night the show aired, Ted Koppel produced a letter from the head of the Crime Lab that did the analysis. He declared that he could NOT say that the patina was a MATCH and that he never made that claim…only the filmmakers did!) The filmmakers speculate that the James box is a “missing box” from the tomb. (YET THE JAMES BOX is a proven fraud!)

10. FEBRUARY 2007- James Cameron and The Discovery Channel THE LOST TOMB OF JESUS It is carried by the major news networks as though it is a BRAND NEW DISCOVERY and completely "scientifically documented" replete with “DNA” and “statistical” evidence. WHEN, IN FACT...it has been known about, scrutinized by experts, disputed and shrouded in fraud and felony arrests for over 25 years. It is an OLD piece of sloppy speculation dug up, enhanced, added to and rehashed just in time for RESURRECTION SUNDAY CELEBRATION … what a coincidence.

11. THE FILM’S 4 BIGGEST CLAIMS DEBUNKED 1. That the Mariamne in the tomb is Mary Magdalene. This LEAP is made from the fact that in one single FOURTH CENTURY “Gnostic” writing - written 300 years AFTER Jesus (Acts of Phillip) …there is a Mariamne mentioned as “Mary Magdalene.” However NONE of the FIRST century writings (the FOUR GOSPELS) written during the lifetime of the eyewitnesses and from where the filmmakers draw their other conclusions about the family of Jesus …EVER refer to Mary Magdalene as Mariamne! To equate the Mariamne in the tomb with the Mary Magdalene of the Bible is absolute intellectual dishonesty and a cosmic leap of “faith!” On top of all this, the box simply reads “Mariamne e Mara” – it is ancient Greek and is properly translated - “Mary also known as Martha.” It does not read Mary Magdalene nor do these words alone connect to ANY ancient literature as Mary Magdalene…it simply says “Mary also known as Martha.” – That’s it! 2.Then DNA “evidence” proves that Jesus and Mary (Magdalene) were married. All it proves is that these two boxes were not related on the maternal side…PERIOD! It says nothing about the paternal side nor if she was related by DNA to any other box in the tomb! AGAIN…another cosmic leap of faith! Note: why couldn’t she have been married to the “Matthew” or the “Jose” in the tomb. What if she was the “daughter” of one of these…we simply do not know ANY of this!

12. THE FILM’S 4 BIGGEST CLAIMS DEBUNKED 3.The “James Box” is a missing box and one of Jesus’ missing brothers. * The James box is a PROVEN FRAUD! * It was found 10 years BEFORE these boxes and the Talpyiot tomb were even discovered! * It does not make up for the fact that the MATTHEW and the JUDAH boxes have no scriptural references whatever to being Jesus’ brothers or relatives! * There IS NO MISSING BOX!…. Kloner: A great story, but nonsense By DAVID HOROVITZ 2-27-2007 Bar-Ilan University Prof. Amos Kloner, the Jerusalem District archeologist who oversaw the archeological work at the Talpiot tomb when it was discovered during construction in 1980. What do you make of the assertion that Jesus and his family were buried there? It makes a great story for a TV film. But it's completely impossible. It's nonsense. There is no likelihood that Jesus and his relatives had a family tomb. They were a Galilee family with no ties in Jerusalem. The Talpiot tomb belonged to a middle class family from the 1st century CE. But there is apparently such a coincidence of related names. The name "Jesus son of Joseph" has been found on three or four ossuaries. These are common names. There were huge headlines in the 1940s surrounding another Jesus ossuary, cited as the first evidence of Christianity. There was another Jesus tomb. Months later it was dismissed. Give me scientific evidence, and I'll grapple with it. But this is manufactured. What of the assertion that the 10th ossuary disappeared from your care and may be none other than the "James" ossuary? Nothing has disappeared. The 10th ossuary was on my list. The measurements were not the same (as the James ossuary). It was plain (it had no inscription). We had no room under our roofs for all the ossuaries, so unmarked ones were sometimes kept in the courtyard (of the Rockefeller Museum).

14. THE FILM’S 4 BIGGEST CLAIMS DEBUNKED 4.The Film claims that the statistical “evidence” puts the probabilities of this being Jesus’ family tomb at an “unarguable” level. (600 to 1) But…when these FACTS are accounted for - THAT… * We have NO EVIDENCE WHATEVER that Mariamne e Mara is MARY MAGDALENE. * Matthew and Judah are not listed as relatives of Jesus anywhere in literature – yet they are in the tomb as well. (conveniently ignored by the filmmakers) * Since Jose is a known abbreviation for Joseph – then the “Jose box” is probably Joseph and NOT a separate box containing Jesus’ “brother”. (This possibility was ALSO conveniently ignored by the filmmakers.) When the VERY SAME same statistical analysis used by the filmmakers is used on these adjusted FACTS - we conclude: That the statistical chance the Talpyiot Tomb is the THE tomb of Jesus of Nazareth falls to ONLY.19 to 1. 15. From THE LOST TOMB website…this is THEIR “evidence” of how the 6 ossuaries are related. Note – they add “James” – even though it is a fake and was NEVER in the tomb! They also add Simon, Miriam, Judas and Salome to the family tree although these boxes are not even in the tomb! They ASSUME that a “Joseph” (who’s box is supposedly missing from the tomb) was married to Maria and that the Jesus was married to Mariamne…and that Mariamne was Mary Magdalene and that they had a child named Judah. From these fabrications and assumptions they get their 600 to 1 odds that this is the Tomb of Jesus of Nazareth! ONLY A FOOL could believe this!

16. This is what we KNOW from the EVIDENCE in the tomb… 1.A man named Joseph had a son named Jesus 2.A man named Jesus had a son named Judah 3.There are 3 other boxes with inscriptions on them (Mary, Mariamne, Matthew) that we have no clue how they are related to one another! 4. There are 4 other boxes with no inscriptions on them. We have no clue who they could be. THAT’S IT! A FAR CRY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT THE MOVIE REPRESENTS! The family that is ACTUALLY in the tomb cannot be the family of Jesus of Nazareth – when just the FACTS as we KNOW them are examined.

17. Here is another way of stating ALL that we KNOW from the evidence in the tomb. There were 10 people put in that tomb (10 boxes) 4 of them are nameless – We don’t have a CLUE who they may be. 6 of them have inscriptions – 5 in ancient Aramaic and 1 in ancient Greek. One says – Jesus son of Joseph Another says - Judah son of Jesus ( These 2 boxes are connected (by the inscriptions) as possibly being related. These are the ONLY familial ties that we can possibly conclude from what we actually SEE in the tomb! That’s it! There are no physical evidence links between ANY of the other 8 boxes – except for the fact that these kinds of tombs usually held members of the same family. DNA evidence shows that 2 of the boxes are NOT related. We have no DNA evidence from ANY of the other boxes…according to the filmmakers.) There is another that says Maria – Maria was THE most popular name for girls at this time. There is a box that says Matthew – Jesus has no family member named Matthew. There is another box that says Jose – Jose is a Hebrew abbreviation for Joseph. There is a box that says Mariamne e Mara - it is ancient Greek and reads “Mary also known as Martha.” It does not read Mary Magdalene nor do these words alone connect to ANY ancient literature as Mary Magdalene…it simply says “Mary also known as Martha.” – That’s it! It is an interesting archeological find – but bears no resemblance whatsoever to the family structure of Jesus of Nazareth as portrayed in ALL the existing first century documents about his life! 18. Here are the SPECULATIONS made by the filmmakers. 1. All 10 boxes HAVE to be of one family. (This may be true…but we don’t KNOW this.) 2.The Jose box is Jesus’ brother. But, it may well be his father (Joseph). 3.The Matthew box is a “relative” of the Mary box. There is no evidence whatsoever for this. 4.The Mariamne e Mara box is Mary Magdalene. A HUGE leap of faith and speculation but an extremely important one to the filmmakers. They admit in their own film that without this “connection” their “statistical analysis” falls way short of anything unusual. The problem is that there is no connection whatsoever. Nowhere in ANY ancient literature is there a “Mariamne also called Martha” who is also called Mary Magdalene…IT DOES NOT EXIST…PERIOD! 5.The Judah box is the child of Jesus and Mariamne. There is no evidence whatsoever for this speculation. The Judah box says – son of Jesus…that is it! The obvious DNA test would have been this one…but, strangely, the filmmakers never attempted this test! 6.There is a “missing box” – which just happens to be (so say the filmmakers) the controversial “James Box” - The owner of that box was arrested for a fraud. The trial is underway in Israel now. The Archeologist in charge of the Jesus Tomb is on record saying that there was no missing box and that the James Box was never a part of this find. (See slide 12 of this presentation) 7. The filmmakers began the movie SPECULATING that the disciples stole the body of Jesus and hid it. This is a 2000 year old speculation that has been disproved time and again by all manner of historical documentation and reasonable logic. 8. The filmmakers end the movie having built a straw-house case that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, had a child and all these people are buried in the same tomb in Jerusalem. (Remember the Da Vinci Codes? – THEY said that Mary Magdalene died and was buried in France! So…which is it? )

19. 1 Tim 3:16-4:2 (The words in RED are added for explanation) Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He (Jesus) appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, (resurrected) was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory. (ascended into heaven without leaving a box of bones behind!) The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith (this above understanding of a resurrected Jesus) and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. (NIV)
