experience Early life 1. He hoped to become a wealthy gentleman. 2. At the age of 17, George took a job measuring land as a surveyor. When his brother died in 1752, he inherited his large farm called Mount Vernon. 3. During the French and Indian War, he became a young soldier.

experience D uring the 1760s, Washington opposed the new British taxes. H e was elected to attend the Second Continental Congress, which met in May 1775. I n June 1775 the congress elected Washington as commander-in-chief of the American Continental Army. experience On December 23, 1783, Washington resigned from his position of the army commander to Congress of the Confederation, Washington joined a convention to create a new government. Back on the farm
