4 Pre-deployment Design: DELOS docking station design minimises seafloor disturbance during servicing. Instruments are fixed onto ROV removable modules so all instruments are returned to exact same location. Platform on legs to minimise disturbance from eddies near the seafloor. Maintenance/service issues: There is one spare set of instruments. If any instrument cannot be fixed/replaced during service, there is a 12 month delay. Calibration: Instruments that cannot be calibrated onboard are taken onshore for servicing at 2 year intervals. WP 2 / WP3 – Technological & Procedural Harmonisation Task 2.1:Review of the current status of all fixed observing sites Task 3.1: Assessment of procedures Operating Scheme DELOS serviced every 12 months Annual servicing in September (ca. 14 days) using Field Support Vessel with ROV

5 Deployment Means: Field Support Vessel and ROV ROV survey conducted (no contact with seafloor) prior to module recovery ROV recovers all modules Data downloaded onto hard drives Instruments serviced and prepared for re-deployment during transit between platforms ROV returns modules to docking station WP 2 / WP3 – Technological & Procedural Harmonisation Task 2.1:Review of the current status of all fixed observing sites Task 3.1: Assessment of procedures

6 On the field Oceanographic data are saved as ascii files ADCP and scanned sonar require commercial proprietary viewing software Digital stills and audio files All raw data stored on USB hard drives. One HD transported to Oceanlab for transfer to DELOS server. WP 3 – Procedural Harmonisation Task 3.1: Assessment of procedures Project update Oceanographic data from DELOS B now uploaded to PANGAEA.
