By the early 1960s the British had developed a viable national music industry and began to produce adapted forms of American music in Beat music and British blues which would be re-exported to America by bands such as The Beatles and Rolling Stones -At this stage British youth were becoming more and more known for the rebellious antics, such as being different to their parents. Influenced by bands such as the Beatles.

7 Fashion In the 60’s fashion was completely influenced by music. Leading bands such as the Beatles set a new fashion in which many wore extremely bizarre clothing to set them out of the crowd and from their parents. The diverse change in fashion mirrored the social movement in the time period. For example many people could afford more diverse clothing due to the economic boom in also known as the ‘swinging sixties’.

For instance Britain was developing on its electric folk, glam rock and even heavy metal music. - Britain was also influenced by ‘world music’ such as Jamaican music and Indian music. This opened up many different doors and created a whole variety of sub- genres. - in the middle of this decade Britain was influenced by ‘pub rock’ and ‘American punk rock’. From this a whole new wave of music was born. British punk rock. - British punk rock was influenced by the political changes at the time. From this the music was very ‘anti society’.

10 - The 1980s saw the emergence of pop, dance music and New Wave. As the term disco fell out of fashion in the decade's early years, genres such as post-disco, Italy disco, Euro disco and dance-pop became more popular. Rock music continued to enjoy a wide audience; sub-genres such as New Wave, soft rock, and glam metal emerged and developed a significant following. Adult contemporary, quiet storm, and smooth jazz gained popularity - Throughout the decade, R&B, hip hop and urban music in general were becoming commonplace, particularly in the inner-city areas of large, metropolitan cities; rap was especially successful in the latter part of the decade, with the advent of the golden age of hip hop. These urban genres, rap and hip hop particularly, would continue their rise in popularity through the 1990s and 2000s.
