The exalted Jesus will come again Lesson 9

Ecclesiastes 12:7 l The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

What happens when a person dies? 1Soul and body separate

Luke 16:19-26 l "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, `Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' "But Abraham replied, `Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

Luke 23:43 l Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

Revelation 14:13 l Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them."

What happens when a person dies? 1Soul and body separate 2The soul goes to either heaven or to hell

John 5:28-29 l "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.

What happens when a person dies? 1Soul and body separate 2The soul goes to either heaven or to hell 3The body remains and decays until Jesus comes again

Matthew 24:36 l No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

When will Jesus come again? 1No one knows except God Himself; unexpectedly

Matthew 24:4-12 l Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, `I am the Christ, ' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.

When will Jesus come again? 1No one knows except God Himself; unexpectedly more and more ungodly (like a clock running down) 2As the world draws closer to the end, it will become more and more ungodly (like a clock running down) wars and rumors of wars –in society: wars and rumors of wars disturbances like earthquakes, famines –in nature: disturbances like earthquakes, famines false prophets & persecution, spread of the gospel –in the church: false prophets & persecution, spread of the gospel

Matthew 25:31 l When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.

In what manner will Jesus come again? 1In all his glory with all his holy angels

Acts 1:11 Revelation 1:7 l "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." l Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.

In what manner will Jesus come again? 1In all his glory with all his holy angels 2Visibly, so that every eye will see him

John 5:28-29 l Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.

What will happen when Jesus comes again? 1All of the dead, believers and unbelievers, will be raised up

Acts 17:31 l For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.

What will happen when Jesus comes again? 1All of the dead, believers and unbelievers, will be raised up 2All of mankind will be judged

Matthew 25:31-46 l … Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world” … Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”

What will Jesus’ verdict be? Depart all who rejected Him as Savior and Lord and showed this in their lifestyle. 1He will say, “Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil,” to all who rejected Him as Savior and Lord and showed this in their lifestyle.

John 3:18 l Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

What will Jesus’ verdict be? Come, you who are blessed by my Father, all who trusted him as Savior and showed this in their lifestyle. 2He will say, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world,” to all who trusted him as Savior and showed this in their lifestyle.

2 Peter 3:10 l But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

What will happen then? 1The world as we know it will be destroyed

2 Peter 3:13 l But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

What will happen then? 1The world as we know it will be destroyed 2God will give believers an absolutely perfect new heaven and new earth

Philippians 3:21 l The Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

What will happen then? 1The world as we know it will be destroyed 2God will give believers an absolutely perfect new heaven and new earth 3We will receive perfect, glorified bodies similar to Christ’s body after His resurrection

Luke 21:27-28 l At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer? free from the presence of sin and its effects. 1This is the day of final redemption, when we will be free from the presence of sin and its effects.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 l Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.

Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer? free from the presence of sin and its effects. 1This is the day of final redemption, when we will be free from the presence of sin and its effects. 2We will be with Jesus forever.

Psalm 16:9-11 l Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer? free from the presence of sin and its effects. 1This is the day of final redemption, when we will be free from the presence of sin and its effects. 2We will be with Jesus forever. 3We will have eternal happiness.

1 John 3:1-3 l How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
